Summer 1, Week 3 (w/c 4th May)

Science/Art/DT

Continuing with our mini beast topic, this week we would like you to make a bug hotel.

I did this with my little boy Harry and we had so much fun learning outdoors and collecting things we could use for our bug hotel. Here is our example. Have fun!

You can do this by:

  1. Asking an adult if you have a plastic bottle (an adult will need to cut the top and bottom of the bottle) or a container that is ok to use.
  2. Stuff the container with long sticks, leaves, grass, small stones
  3. Decorate the outside, create a sign
  4. Place in a sheltered spot on the ground.
  5. Check on it daily.

Other exciting activities with your bug hotel:

  • Keep a list of the bugs you see in your hotel.
  • If you see more than one type you may need to keep a tally chart.
  • After a week let me know who your guests are. If you want to send me a photograph of your hotel I'd love to see it.

English

You could then write some instructions to tell us how you made it. To help you do this, please look at https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom

  • Click on subject,
  • then year 2,
  • then English,
  • then scroll down until you see Genre Focus: Instructions.

These are a series of videos which are split into 5 lessons. To help you write your instructions, I would like you to watch lesson 3 and this will help you remember what to include in your instructions.

Watch the video and then write your own instructions: How to make a bug hotel.

Maths

  • Complete the mathletics tasks set
  • Spend at least 10 minutes a day on TT rockstars
  • Look at this website. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ Click on summer term week 1 and watch one video a day (it is split into 5 lessons). This also has some worksheets attached if you would like to complete them too.

Summer 1, Week 4 (w/c 11th May)

English/Science - Creative writing

  • After creating such wonderful bug hotels last week, write a story based on the mini-beasts that start living in your bug hotel. Your story should be called “The Secret Garden”. Maybe the creatures in the bug hotel make friends with each other and go on an adventure? Or perhaps the mini-beasts have to try and reach the bug hotel, after the keep being attacked by the birds that live nearby? Be creative as you wish.
  • Please send you stories for Mrs Wilson and Miss Newton to enjoy.

Maths - Mathletics

  • Spend at least 10 minutes a day on TT rockstars.

Geography - Map game

  • Have a go at playing the map skills board game with your family. All the instructions and resources are included below :-

*** UPDATED - New Activities added below ***  (30th Mar 2020)

Week one of home learning completed! Well done everyone (including the parents!) I hope you are all doing your best and listening to your adults at home?

I am really missing you all and teaching you all so much, but we know that staying at home (if possible) is the best for now. For week 2, please continue working through your home learning pack, reading lots, completing tt rockstars and mathletics. I have added new tasks on time and money which is what we started learning about at school.

I would love to hear from you all to see how you are getting on, maybe you could tell me a bit about your favourite book you have read? I would also love to see some pictures of you playing outside, completing your daily exercise or just having fun playing inside.

Please email me on swilson@st-peters.wakefield.sch.uk

Many thanks

Stay safe

Love Mrs Wilson

Mrs Wilson: swilson@st-peters.wakefield.sch.uk

Miss Newton: gnewton@st-peters.wakefield.sch.uk

RE

  • Write a prayer about something that is important to you for a class prayer book- maybe it would be a good idea to pray for all the doctors and nurses who are working so hard to look after people who are poorly with the coronavirus.

Stay safe everyone and keep washing your hands! We’re really going to miss you all while we are having this extra time off. But before long, everything will be back to normal and we will all be together again. In the meantime- behave well at home for your mums, dads or whoever you live with (they won’t like being stuck in the house either!) and if not, Mrs Wilson and Miss Newton will find out!

See you soon.

Miss Newton and Mrs Wilson x
