You can find out what we are currently learning on our Curriculum Newsletter.

About our class

In 2 Yew, we are a team! We work together, with the support and guidance of the adults, to be the best we can be. We support and celebrate each other’s achievements and we are proud when we accomplish something new. We follow our St Peter’s & Clifton SPIRIT in all we do and we will be recognised and celebrated when showing these school values.

Homework expectations

  • Reading daily for at least 10 minutes - either your Little Wandle book over the weekend, or a sharing book with a grown up. Sharing books should be returned to school on a Friday. Little Wandle books should be returned to school on a Monday. If you child takes a longer chapter book (fluency book) they will take the same book until they have read the whole thing.
  • Timestables Rockstars and Numbots - the children all have logins in their reading records. Initially, Numbots is an excellent resource to secure number skills. As we move on to learning our 2, 3, 5 and 10 timestables, TT Rockstars is great fun too!

PE

PE will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday this half term. The children will be taking part in Fundamental movement sessions on a Wednesday with Mrs Gallagher and on Thursday will be learning how to play Tag Rugby with Mrs Gallagher and the PE coach.

    Reading

Reading is extremely important to children of all ages, but during Year 2, you will notice significant changes in your child’s reading fluency and comprehension as they become more independent. There are numerous things we as a school do to support children’s reading and coupled with support from home, their progress accelerates momentously.

    • Each time your child reads to you, please sign their Reading Record. This results in stickers and your child's name in Mrs Gallagher's WOW book!
    • I would love every child to read for at least 10 minutes every day- reading is so important
    • We have an amazing reading garden in our classroom where we can choose to read.
    • All children read every day as part of their phonics and reading groups. We also listen to the children read one to one as often as we can.
    • Phonics - we will be consolidating phase 5 sounds in the autumn term, then move on to our Bridge to Spelling scheme when the children are ready.

    Physical Education

The children should bring their PE kit in a bag and will get changed for PE at school on these days

    Kit required for P.E:

Boys - White T-shirt and black shorts and trainers for outdoor games during summer and winter months. Warm navy/black tracksuit and trainers for outdoor games during the winter months.

Girls - White T-shirt, black shorts or cycling shorts and trainers for outdoor games during summer and winter months. Warm navy/black tracksuit and trainers for outdoor games during the winter months.

Please note earrings must be removed for PE or covered by tape provided by the parent.

    Behaviour

Our behaviour policy in school is very positive. Our class charter follows 'ready, respectful and safe' as the guiding principles for how we behave in school. We love rewarding good choices and hard work; we offer certificates for Writer, Reader, Mathematician and Spirit Star of the week. The children also earn house points, stickers, special messages home and a chance to take home Everywhere Bear each week.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to a brilliant year,

    Mrs Gallagher and Mrs Pap.
